Grab The Games: Scourge: Outbreak

It's time for another review. This time I will review Scourge Outbreak a third-person shooter game developed by UFO Interactive. The game was first released as an exclusive title for Xbox 360 but then the devs decided that it would be a good idea to make a steam version too. Unfortunately it wasn't and I will explain what I mean right away. Basically the game is I an updated version of The Scourge Project, a 2010 title that was released in 2 episodes and pretty much failed in everything and received a lot of negative comments because of the problems there were. Even now that you can play The Scourge Project Episodes 1 and 2 (you will get it for free if you have the Scourge Outbreak Ambrosia Bundle) in some cases gamers can't even load the game or it crashed after a few seconds.

Now let's focus with the Scourge Outbreak review. I got really disappointed when I start playing the game because from the first moments the story was a little bit boring and nothing fancy at all. I liked the fact that its character has a unique set of flashbacks that can reveal us some things about his past and his goal in the whole game but I don't think it is enough to keep you playing the game. As far as the missions is concerned, they are really simple, they are go from point A to point B , hack some devices, kill everything that move and that's all ,even the co-op and the competitive campaign won't add anything more to the game. As far the multiplayer (capture the flag, deathmatch etc.) is concerned, I couldn't find anyone to play after trying several times so my review is going to be more focused on the campaign. Furthermore, when you start playing the game you will feel like playing a bad copy of aliens and mass effect especially when you will get surrounded by alien creatures and they will start jumping on you.

Let's state some more positive things about the game because I don't want to be all negative with the game. The team AI is really well designed and they will make everything in their power to help you, keep you alive and kill your enemies even without giving them the orders to do it. I liked also the whole idea about leveling up and improving your abilities but I didn't like the fact that in some cases you have to be so close with the enemy to use them and you cannot for example use the shield far from you and then go and take cover there. As far as the weapons are concerned sometimes for no reason you have to empty a full mag in an enemy to kill him even if you are shooting in his head. Another thing I loved about the game is the soundtrack and the artwork pretty detailed and good but the graphics of the game aren't anything special that will impress you but I liked the design.

Finally, I wouldn't suggest the game to people who have been used to playing really good third-person shooter games but I would suggest it to people who want to have fun with a shooting game that it hasn't to offer you much but it will reward you with really long missions and shooting everything-that-moves-type of action. Also, the people who have played The Scourge Project will really be happy with this game and have a lot of fun playing too since the game has been really improved since the S. Project.

P.S The game has achievements, full controller support and steam trading cards (the cards drop are after some hours of gameplay)

Verdict:

6/10
