Grab The Games: RIFTSTORM

Another day, another review for our fans! Today we’re stepping into a world where supernatural forces, secret societies, and dangerous entities collide with fast-paced action in RIFTSTORM, a co-op PvE looter-shooter that combines roguelite elements, extraction mechanics, and intense top-down combat.
From the beginning, RIFTSTORM throws you into the Mythic Protocol, an organization dedicated to investigating and containing supernatural threats. You take on the role of a Weaver, an elite operative equipped with unique abilities and experimental technology. You can deploy alone or team up with up to two other players, heading into dangerous combat zones where every mission presents new challenges and opportunities. One of the game’s biggest strengths is its combat. The action is fast, chaotic, and filled with enemies, creating plenty of moments where you need to stay mobile and make quick decisions. Each Weaver has their own abilities and combat identity, which gives you a reason to experiment with different characters and discover which playstyle suits you best. The roguelite elements add another interesting layer to the experience. During missions, Lythograms allow you to build and modify your character, creating different combinations and synergies as you progress. Finding the right combination of upgrades can completely change how a run develops, giving you plenty of opportunities to experiment with different builds. Another aspect I enjoyed is the mission structure
RIFTSTORM combines curated and procedurally generated missions, meaning that your deployments don’t simply feel like a linear sequence of levels. You are constantly deciding how far you want to push your squad before extracting, while increasingly dangerous threats make every additional step feel like a risk. The presentation also deserves recognition. The supernatural setting gives the game a distinctive identity, with colorful environments, strange creatures, powerful abilities, and plenty of visual effects filling the screen during combat.
The combination of its top-down perspective and bullet-heavy action makes even the most chaotic encounters easy to follow while still feeling appropriately intense. Playing with friends is where I believe RIFTSTORM has some of its greatest potential. Coordinating different Weavers, combining abilities, and deciding when to continue pushing forward or extract creates a nice cooperative dynamic. At the same time, the game provides a solo option for players who prefer to tackle the Mythic Protocol on their own.
As for the negatives, one small issue I noticed is that you can’t really pause the game when playing solo. Even when you’re playing on your own, the action continues, which can be inconvenient if you need to step away for a moment. It’s a relatively minor issue, but having a proper pause option would make the solo experience more comfortable. Overall, RIFTSTORM is a promising addition to the co-op action genre, combining fast-paced combat, roguelite progression, supernatural themes, and extraction-style decision-making into an enjoyable package. The different Weavers and build possibilities give the gameplay plenty of room for experimentation, while the combination of curated and procedural missions provides a good foundation for replayability.
Since the game has only just entered Early Access, there is clearly plenty of room for the experience to grow. The developers already have plans for additional Weavers, weapons, enemies, progression improvements, narrative content, and an expanded endgame experience, so I’m interested to see how RIFTSTORM develops from here.
If you enjoy fast-paced PvE shooters, roguelites, or cooperative games where you and your friends can push your luck against increasingly dangerous enemies, RIFTSTORM is definitely worth keeping an eye on.
