Grab The Games: Platformines

Platformines, a game which raises two major questions. The first: Can you have enough guns? And the second: Who the hell left all this valuable ore down in these mines?

So the best way to describe Platformines is the SNES equivalent of Borderlands, so sorry that means no online co-op or local co-op to speak of.

The whole idea of the game is to find these magical guns which shoot blocks which can only appear in certain locations of a doomsday drill, which will dig you out of this accursed mine which you've been trapped in.

Luckily none of the other humans in the mine seem all that bothered with escaping and are just as content with walking back and forth waiting for someone who looks just like you to poke your head around and shoot at them all day.

The game world feels quite large and exploration is fun. Multiple jumps in midair make it easy to get around the place and the four different weapon types which are available offer multiple ways to slaughter the myriad of foes which lie before you.

Much like an RPG you roam around finding treasures to assist you in your endeavours, although there's no levelling up system of which to speak of. Instead you just find better guns to deal with the challenges that lie ahead.

The environment of Platformines is incredibly unforgiving. Despite the heights of which you can jump you're expected to account for fall damage on your character and roaming buzz saws provide substantial threat for those who don't watch their step.

When it comes to an end game goal the whole idea, as I've said, is to escape the mine which you've been trapped in, with each escape a harder difficulty is unlocked and for those looking to explore the mines to its fullest free roaming can be just as fun.

Replayability is high in this simple yet addicting platformer which reminds us that some of the sweetest moments can be enjoyed with the simplest games.
