Grab The Games: Mordheim City of the Damned

Admit it...just admit it we all love Game Workshop's games and this one is definitely not an exception. Mordheim: City of the Damned is the first video game adaptation of Games Workshop's cult classic tabletop game Mordheim. Set in the Warhammer World's decimated Empire city, Mordheim: City of the Damned is a turn-based tactical game where you lead warbands into bloody and lethal skirmishes.

The game blends RPG elements, fast-paced tactical combat and intricate unit customization in a time wrought by chaos and rivalry where only the strongest survive. After a twin tailed comet crashed on Mordheim, the City of Damned turned into a terrifying battlefield where rival warbands fight fiercely for the control of key neighborhoods, looking for glory and fortune by acquiring the very valuable Wyrdstone fragments. Choose from iconic Mordheim warbands - Sisters of Sigmar, the Cult of the Possessed, Skaven, Mercenaries from the Empire - and lead your troops to battle. Recruit new units, equip them with enhanced gear. Evolve and customize your warband with the experience gained from each successful mission, transforming them into a terrifying force on the battlefield. The first think I loved in this game is definitely the graphics. The graphics are sharp and there are a lot of details and everything is honestly really well designed.

All the characters and the environments in the game look really amazing and it honestly feels like you play the tabletop game in your PC and everything have come to life. Moreover, another aspect worth mentioning is that you can customize your warband completely. From gears to head and the name everything is in your disposal to create your warband as you like. I also loved that the game requires a lot of strategic thinking and plan your next moves carefully. This is true since there are dangers hidden around every corner and a wrong move may be your last. When a unit dies in the game it stays dead forever. There is also detailed loot and experience system and you can use your experience and loot in order to make your warband even more powerful with new devastating abilities.

You can also choose from a multitude of classes and create the most effective warband for your journeys. Furthermore, there is also a skirmish mode where you can fight against other warbands and prove you are the best there is. As far as the negative aspects are concerned, the very first that bothered me is that the AI of the enemy doesn't change depending the mission or the objective you have. They will always rush you and try to kill you or make you flee etc. Moreover, the hit or dodge chance feels unbalanced since sometimes you don't hit your target at all even with 90% chance of being successful. Another negative for me is that, the game doesn't have a detailed tutorial when you start the campaign for the first time. This would definitely help the players get used to the game even more easily.

To sum up, the city of Mordheim may be damned but the game isn’t. It is not perfect but it is really worth playing especially if you love tabletop games on PC. I totally recommend it and its adaptation on PC is really impressive despite the negative aspects.

Verdict: 8/10
