Grab The Games: Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne

Max Payne 2: The Fall of max Payne is what you'd expect out of a sequel to one of the greatest action games. In Max Payne 2 the story get horribly dark with twists and death around almost every corner. This might be Max's worse moment in the series. The story takes place after Max Payne, but it's after a few years after the incident in the first game. Now max is addicted to pain killers, due to him constantly taking painkillers during gun fights in the first game. Well he wakes up in a hospital, then he remembers his memories and the story unfolds from there. This is a romance story for Max, a very bloody and gritty one that is!

The story is still delivered through those awesome comics and the occasional cutscenes. Though you might be sad that Sam Lake (The original face of Max Payne) have been replaced by a less in constant pain looking model with motion capture.

Fear not, as for the gameplay has not changed at all Bullet time is still in the game with the cool slow motion diving, and it's as cool as before just like in the previous game. The guns, the player has an arsenal of weapons to choose from which is great since there isn't a 2 weapon limit like most games nowadays, though most likely you'll be sticking to 3 guns as they usually are either automatic, handguns or the shotgun. The shooting feels as fluid as ever with the great precise and sensitive controls the shooting just feels amazing. Here lies the problem with the gameplay mechanics, there is nothing new. Except! For the fact that you can play as a different character than Max Payne, not going to say who as it would spoil plot but it's really cool when you do. To be honest Max Payne didn't really need new mechanics.

If there's a problem with the game it's definitely the length. The game feels significantly shorter that original, but it also doesn't feel too short. There definitely could have been more chapters added in to make the game longer. The loading times between loading a save and chapters can be noticeable at times but it is still manageable.

The music and sound design is still as amazing as it was before in the original, it still has that gritty film noire feel with a hint of romance. The guns still sound like guns, with great detail. Voice acting is still top notch just like the original, the characters feel so alive because of the great voice actors.

If you read through this you probably noticed I made a whole bunch of references to the original Max Payne title, well because Max Payne 2 is very similar to Max Payne. So if you hated the original's gameplay you are probably not going to like this either. If you loved the original, well you are in for a treat!

Score: 9/10
