Grab The Games: Katanaut

Another day, another review for our fans! Today, we’re diving into Katanaut, a fast-paced action roguelite that drenches its Metroidvania roots in cosmic horror, and demands both precision and grit. Developed by solo indie studio Voidmaw, Katanaut launched on September 10, 2025, on Steam! It’s an adrenaline-fueled descent into a dying space station, where the only constant is danger.

You play as Naut, wielding both swords and strange, downloaded abilities as you slash your way through a station twisted by eldritch chaos. Every death brings you back with new upgrades—each run reshapes the layout, your build, and your strategy.

Combat is sharp, rigid, and designed for players who can think on their feet. From heavy melee strikes to ranged tricks and time manipulation, every encounter feels like a skill test. The pixel art visuals are remarkably clean and detailed, with lighting and gore that amplify the dread and energy of each corridor. Pair that with a synthwave-leaning soundtrack, and the atmosphere grips tight.
As for the negatives, while the gameplay is strong, it treads very close to Dead Cells-style combat. For players seeking something more radically original, this resemblance might feel a little too familiar.

All in all, Katanaut is a beautifully brutal roguelite that leans hard into its cosmic-horror flavor. Fluid combat, a layered progression system, and killer audiovisuals make it one of the most exciting new entries in the genre this year. Fix the rough edges of originality, and we’ve got a standout cult classic—and for today? It’s definitely worth jumping into the fray.
