Grab The Games: Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Rise of the Owlverlord

Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Rise of the Owlverlord is an old school 2D platformer with the visuals on par with most modern gen games and was created by Black Forest games. It was released in September of 2013 and is a stand alone DLC of Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams.

You play as a little girl stuck inside a dream world with what i can only assume to be nightmares and pleasant dreams. Both these realms can be accessed one at a time and have to be visited every so often to further progress the game.

Unlike most of the other platformers available in the market, this game doesn't takes it easy on the player from the get go,instead it gives all the tools necessary to survive the very cleverly created levels which get harder and harder as the game progresses and it is the players job to keep up or be left behind which is never a good thing. At times it can be extremely challenging but the effort put into finishing any one level is rewarded with the profound satisfaction which not many games offer these days.

As is the case with the older Classic platformers, you can simply jump on an enemy or dash into them starting another dash towards the next enemy and so on. If or when they all connect successfully, the pure joy you get from clearing an entire area of enemies in a few key strokes which would usually take a few tries cannot be put into words. And the responsive controls that one does not expect from an indie game such as this provide a much needed edge.

And then there are the puzzles that require an ever so shrewd mind to be solved or they do get frustrating rather quickly. The game tests the players in more then one ways and rewards accordingly.

The game visuals look stunning and the concept of the dual worlds makes it all the more enjoyable to visit each level again and again for 100% completion. Where one looks something out of a Disney movie, the other one seems like something your brain would conjure up during a half-asleep dreamless state.

The game challenges the players to explore and makes dying a part of the game and not something that marks the end of a gaming session. In the 20 or so minutes it took me to finish the first level,i had died 33 times and not once did i think about quitting the game but instead got motivated more and more.

This little DLC has so much quality content to offer that it seems like a crime to not play it a few times at the price tag it is available in. It will keep you busy for a good while and the replay value only adds to the many reasons for buying this game.
