Grab The Games: Distant Star: Revenant Fleet

Distant Star caught my attention lately and after playing a few hours, it is truly one of the surprising good indie games of 2015. Let me properly introduce you the game first, Distant Star: Revenant Fleet is a real-time, space-strategy game for PC by Blazing Griffin, featuring fleet-based combat with persistent ship upgrades in a dynamically generated galaxy. In Distant Star: Revenant Fleet, you take control of the last remaining ships of a near-destroyed A'kari fleet, and must rebuild your forces as you battle through ancient, galactic battlefields towards a final showdown with the Orthani.

Before I start my main review I would like to mention that the game currently is in an Early Access pre-alpha state. What really impressed me when I first start the game is the design in general. The game features really beautiful space sectors where your ship will travel and hopefully survive as well. The graphics of the game are really good as well and captivating creating a great atmosphere for the game. Moreover, this title even though it is like a largest scale of FTL, it manages to be unique at the same time. Distant Star combines beautifully RTS and random generated aspects.

RTS is crucial in this game because if you want to survive the attacks of the pirates you have to plan every move you make carefully and also never forget to repair and upgrade your ships. As far as the random generated feature is concerned, the game is different every time you start a new campaign from how big the sector is to what you will face in your journey everything is random so you have to adopt in every situation.

The upgrade system between missions is also a strong positive feature of the game. You can buy new ships and upgrade or repair your existing ones. The game is also bug free. However due to the very early development of the game there are some negative aspects i should mention. First and foremost the game is extremely difficult. When you start the game you will have maximum 3 ships and when you are attacked you have to face 5-6 ships. Furthermore, the game is currently really small with only 1 sector to play. Also, the game needs more story elements that i am sure they will be added as the updates are coming.

To sum up, despite the negative aspects that i am sure they will be improved with the frequent updates of the game, this title is a gem and has a really huge feature ahead of it. I totally recommend it to everyone who loved FTL and in general to people who like RTS space games. Blazing Griffin surprised us again!

Verdict 7,5/10
