Grab The Games: Calvino Noir

Noir and stealth are two of my favorite genres lately and this game has both of these elements. I am talking of course about Calvino Noir. But is it worth getting? Let's talk about the game first. The film noir stealth game, Calvino Noir is the exploratory, sneaking adventure through the 1930s European criminal underworld.

Architecture meets Noir as you become unwillingly entangled in a revolutionist plot. Sneak through sewers, across rooftops, and past guards in this dark and mysterious journey. Play as a disparate group of low-lifes, loners and last-chancers as they fight for the future of a city sliding slowly into the gutter. The characters of Calvino Noir exist in a moral universe which knows only shades of grey. Some are broken souls, some are merely damaged - but all are fighting to forge a future in an ugly world ruled by those whose hearts are cruel and dark. Although inspired by the futuristic dystopian visions of Deus Ex and Blade Runner, Calvino Noir is a throwback to an era that could easily be from Earth's past.

The game is heavily noir influenced, but at the same time progressive, reflecting a somewhat modernist take on the classic genre. The very first thing that really impressed me is definitely the atmosphere of the game. The noir, 30s environments and graphics are impressive and the soundtrack fits perfectly the game and makes you want to play more and more. It really seems like a film from the cinema. The narration is amazing as well and fully voiced. Moreover, the levels are fully detailed and you will explore 7 levels across 3 acts.

Another amazing feature of the game that I have to mention is that you can co-ordinate multiple characters in the same level and your success depends on how effectively you will use them .You can upgrade their abilities as well. You can also choose your own way in the way. The way of brute force or complete stealth, it is truly up to you how you will play it. As far as the negative aspects are concerned I found the game a little bit linear after a while doing the same thing over and over. Also, there are only 7 levels in the game, their enormous but only 7.

To sum up, the game is a really good stealth, noir game that reminds me of the old cinema movies. The game is well design and feels great to play.

Verdict: 8/10
