The Talos Principle
The Talos Principle is a puzzle game like no other, which really left me speechless and completely addicted to it. But what is TTP? It is a philosophical first-person puzzle game from Croteam, the creators of the legendary Serious Sam games, written by Tom Jubert (FTL, The Swapper) and Jonas Kyratzes (The Sea Will Claim Everything). This game definitely offers an experience like never before in any puzzle game you have ever played and you will soon understand why!
To begin with, this title offers a really interesting storyline especially if you are a fun of games with good story, you will be deeply satisfied of what this game has to offer. As if awakening from a deep sleep, you find yourself in a strange, contradictory world of ancient ruins and advanced technology. Tasked by your creator with solving a series of increasingly complex puzzles, you must decide whether to have faith or to ask the difficult questions: Who are you? What is your purpose? And what are you going to do about it?
Also, your creator Elohim provides an amazing narration and a better understanding of what and who you are….or maybe not? It is about you to unveil it in the end of the game! I should also mention that following the story is completely optional you can either choose to follow the story line or just completely ignore it and keep solving puzzles. Also, another element that I like in the game is that you feel completely free to do whatever you like, if you choose this path of course, you can solve puzzles the way you like! You should choose and create your own path! But remember like in real life choices have consequences and somebody's always watching you.
Furthermore, I should not forget to mention that the graphics and the environment of this title are simply outstanding (honestly could we expect something less from this dev team?) The world you play in is simply breathtaking and for this amazing outcome something that helps is definitely the soundtrack that creates an atmosphere of calmness but mystery at the same time! The game also features 120 impressive puzzles with various difficulties that will keep you busy for hours and hours.
There is also a negative aspect I should mention but it is also a positive at the same time. I loved when you die there is something like a rewind feature but also it resets the whole room, so this can waste a lot of time in harder puzzles. Other than that I couldn’t find another negative aspect for this title because it really has everything. Challenges, good story line, amazing graphics and soundtrack.
Finally this is a highly recommended game for everyone that loves puzzle games and in general good games. This game is definitely one of the best indie games of 2014 especially in the puzzle category. It is like Portal meets paradise but way better than it sounds. This developers have achieved something magical and they managed to create a title that it will be remembered and worth playing through the years to come. If you are not sure if you would like the game you can always check the available Demo and convince yourself if this title is worth picking up or not.
The question remains: What will you do create your own path or just follow what they tell you to do? It is up to you to decide!
