Today I am really happy to present you a game I was really looking forward to play called Shadwen. But what is this title exactly? And what it has to offer compared to other stealth games? Let me first introduce you the game properly. Shadwen is a 3rd person stealth-action game where the only rule is to remain unseen. Stay hidden - or the ruthless guards will kill you on sight!
Shadwen, an assassin on a quest to kill the king, has a chance encounter with an orphaned girl, Lily. She follows Shadwen on her dangerous journey, but when the ruthless guards get too close, Shadwen must take action right in front of Lily's eyes. Will Shadwen risk the girl's budding trust by resorting to violence, or try and find another way while keeping her real purpose concealed? To kill or not to kill - that is the question. The very first thing that I loved in this title is definitely the graphics. The title features some really impressive scenery, full of details and the game is well optimized so it will play in most PCs. The physics in this title is amazing as well. You can use an attachable rope to drag, topple objects and make deaths look accidental; let gravity do the grave work.
Moreover, you can set up traps and hazards to lure guards and kill them, you can craft a lot of surprises or you can go old school and approach them from behind and stab them. I love also the way time is used in this title. Time stands still when you are not moving allowing the player to stop and plan every move carefully or rewind time and do things as they should have been. Time can be used for your advantage. I also forgot to mention that you can move freely pretty much everywhere in these medieval provinces and use your surroundings to your advantage.
As far as the negative aspects are concerned, the first one would definitely be the fact that guards totally ignore Lilly during mission so here present sometimes feels pointless. Moreover, it feels repetitive sometimes because you have to do the same things over and over and once you get the hang of it it’s really easy to finish the whole game.
To sum up, the game is not bad at all, it has its good moments but sometimes the negative aspects are more than the positive ones in this title. I recommend it picking it up during a sale but I would say again that the game is really enjoyable.
